Faure Pavane Op.50 (Arr. Dirk Chan)

Faure Pavane Op.50 is a beautiful piece by Gabriel Faure that contains one of his most well known and loved melodies. Poignant and romantic, the Pavane in F Sharp Minor from 1887 originally for chorus and orchestra, begins with a gentle accompaniment and the entrance of the ethereal theme, before a development into a middle section that moves through various harmonic progressions. The main theme subsequently emerges in a new key, and then moves onto the conclusion section. This piece is soothing, elegant and romantic. The name Pavane refers to a slow professional dance from the Renaissance in Europe and this dance like feel is evident throughout. This arrangement for solo piano makes a wonderful accompaniment to wedding videos and film.
